Charity miles is a fitness app which takes care of your fitness and let's you do donations based on your workouts. For every mile you run, walk or bike, you generate some amount of money, which you can donate to any organisation that the app supports. Some include WWF(World Wildlife Fund), Feeding America, The Iron Man foundation and more. If you are imagining how this app makes you donate for free, then the answer to this question would be 'sponsors'. Various multinational companies like Johnson and Johnson, AON, Timex etc provide the funds for the amount of money raised through this app.

Why Charity Miles?
As I said before this is a free fitness app available on the playstore which is made to do some good to the society. This app has advantages that apply to you as well as to the person/organisation this money is donated to. If you carry your mobile with the Charity Miles app enabled while you're walking , running or biking you not only do good to yourself but to other needy people to whom you are donating money. In fact when people use Charity Miles they tend to push themselves to their limits because they know that they are doing this for some good. You can also connect with other users via workout teams. Simply search for a work out team and join it to compare your stats with other people in the team. You can also join Tech-DeFrag!'s team. Swipe from the left and select teams. In the search bar type in "techdefrag". There are many fitness apps out there which may provide you more info about your activities, but Charity Miles is one of a kind. In fact if you find the information that Charity Miles provides, you can always use any other fitness app alogside Charity Miles(I would recommend Google Fit) to get more complex info. How does Charity Miles work?
Charity miles is quite similar to other fitness apps available in terms of functionality. It uses your device's GPS for tracking the distance you've travelled and uses its own algorithms to find how much money you've raised. For example there are three types of activities supported by Charity Miles, Indoor Walk/Run, Outdoor Walk/Run and Biking. If you select Indoor walk/run, you don't need to turn on your GPS since you are working out indoors. So, Charity Miles will automatically increase the distance count every two seconds(Even if you are sitting idle). If you choose the outdoor walk/run option, the distance will be calculated according to GPS. If you choose the Biking option, everything will be similar to the previous option except the money you raise. Money that is generated is different in all three modes. You'll earn more for each mile walked in the Outdoor mode than the indoor or biking mode. Some Drawbacks.....
Charity Miles is a very good concept and initiative. But there are some drawbacks to this app. The app doesn't provide detailed information about our work out like Calories Burnt, or detailed tracking of our daily activities which other fitness apps do. There is one more major drawback. As I said before, if you select Indoor mode, the money raised in this mode can be a result of cheating because this mode updates the distance even if the user isn't doing any workout(or stationary).
Conclusion
This is one of the best initiatives taken by app developers to provide funds to needy people. Moreover the way this app is designed is simply great. Charity Miles provides a really good looking UI.
Nowadays people use smart phones extensively for their daily purposes especially when it comes to fitness. Charity Miles can take care of your fitness and provide you a chance to do collective good for free(Remember Charity Miles ). If you have to run, why not run for a good cause?
