As we all know, for a long time people have been discussing about the intoduction of dislike button on Facebook. A few days ago Mark Zuckerberg in a Q&A session with people said that they wanted a way to show 'empathy' to things that are inappropriate to like. Listening this, people thought that Facebook was going to introduce the Dislike Button, which was declined by Mark himself(You can watch the video at the end of this post).
So What is it Then?
According him, Facebook didn’t want to build a Dislike button because they didn't want to turn it into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s posts. Rather they wanted to develop a method through which people can show empathy towards posts that are inappropriate to like. Suppose you are sharing a post related to current affairs or disasters which may be sad, so people might not be comfortable in liking it. All they want to show is empathy towards the topic. This is why Facebook is focusing on an empathy button rather than a dislike button. So When Can We Expect it?
Facebook is currently testing their new button, and will be shipping to some places for the purpose of testing. After that the button will roll out to many other places. Here's the video of the Q&A session in which Mark gives a hint about the Empathy Button!
